About us

Our History

In 1941 an open art exhibition at the Downers Grove Public Library featured the work of local artists.  Later, a meeting was spearheaded by acclaimed  artist from Downers Grove, Tressa Emerson Benson, and our community art guild was organized.  A few weeks later, the Downers Grove Artists' Guild was officially formed with a membership of ten.  Today the guild includes students, award winning artists of many disciplines, aspiring artists and patrons of the arts.  Members have the opportunity to show and sell their work in many local venues.

Our Staff

Friendly, knowledgeable, and experienced, the board and committee chairpersons who volunteer with the Downers Grove Artists' Guild are what truly set apart our guild from others.   Each person has a distinct set of skills and a personality that suits our vision for the guild. Because we are diverse, we are able to offer a variety of programs, presentations and exhibition opportunities, ensuring your time spent with us enriches you as an artist or patron. Although we come from many different backgrounds, we share a love for art.

Come Relax

Whether you attend our free meetings, our free exhibitions or prefer to support our doings from afar, we provide a casual atmosphere with an emphasis on simply enjoying the visual arts in all forms.  It does not matter if you are just starting out, or if you work professionally in an art field. All are welcome.  All artists and patrons are incredibly important at the Downers Grove Artists' Guild. You are invited to attend any of our meetings as our guest. Our art community of members welcomes you.

The Downers Grove Artists' Guild is affiliated with the Alliance of Fine Art, and each year a scholarship is granted to a student artist from Downers Grove North and Downers Grove South high schools.

Downers Grove Artists' Guild aims to expand awareness of the visual arts in our community of Downers Grove and surrounding suburbs through art exhibitions in a variety of venues.  We encourage those who love art or enjoy learning new methods of creating art by bringing local. experts in diverse mediums to tell us more about their method and demonstrate how it is done

Exhibitions and Awards

Awards are given in multiple categories in nearly every member exhibition we host. All members are able to participate in these art shows, following the guild guidelines.  There is no jury process. Several artists receiving top awards are then selected for the prestigious annual Best of the Best exhibition, sponsored by the Alliance of Fine Art
